I don’t do well with being idle. I have to be doing something with my hands. Ever since I was a kid – taking things apart and putting them back together, drumming in the marching band, volleyball – I’m content when my hands are busy and have a job to do. And I love this magnificent earth and all the wonderful created things in it – an unpolluted starry night, a bee pollinating a flower, a river cascading down a mountain in the form of a waterfall – the beauty and mystery of what’s waiting outside is endless. I’ll never be able to create anything that compares to the splendor of what God has already created, but if I can just capture a glimpse of that beauty, if I can just use a sliver of existing material, and through the gift of working with my hands, guide others to see and experience and appreciate that wonder of creation, what a joy that would be!
Keeping my hands busy resulted in many years of working for an HVAC construction company. Traveling, being out in nature, and tinkering with my hands was always there, in the background, but I wasn’t able to dedicate the energy and attention to it as much as I wanted to. Getting married in 2022 and moving to another state gave me a unique opportunity to leave my job and focus on my passions. Cross Country Works (CCW) was born out of my joy for photography and wood working, hence the logo of a camera within a saw blade.
My joy of photography is satisfied in capturing nature through landscapes, wildlife and foliage. My photography is raw and unedited; what you see is what God shows me through the lens. I prefer showcasing and displaying my photography on acrylic and metal, but you'll find my work printed on other media too, including wood and canvas.
In terms of my wood working, I try to use as much reclaimed wood as possible – dumpster diving for old furniture, repurposing heavily used pallets, or using leftover scraps from fellow artists of another kind, furniture and cabinet makers!
I hope what you see and can touch helps you to better appreciate the beauty, awe and splendor of this created world!
